The owner, Bret Wirta, describes his design of Washington Street Plaza this way:
"The seventy-seven room Holiday Inn Express and one hundred and twenty-five seat Black Bear Diner are separate franchises that will function independently or work together for our conference center guests as needed. Our Holiday Inn Express hotel is designed to give the guest more value than what they are expecting from the typical, limited-services hotel experience. We have designed larger, quieter rooms, real one-bedroom suites, a roof-top garden pavilion, and included a travel and rental car agency plus a 250 seat conference center.
The Black Bear Diner serves home-style food. Its signature dishes like pot roast and meatloaf are cooked from scratch and served in a fun, family-style atmosphere. The restaurant has large booths, counter seating, a private dining area and outdoor seating. The large kitchen is designed to support busy mealtimes while at the same time catering hotel conference functions. A full range of buffet-style food options are available for business conferences, wedding receptions or reunions.
The separate hotel and restaurant sites share a pond and are linked with a bridge. They are linked electronically too. For example, hotel guests can charge a meal with their room key while restaurant guests can reserve a room while enjoying their dinner.
The conference center will assist our business clients in growing their own businesses by providing a state-of-the-art space for building extended customer relationships and will assist wedding and group planners by providing them a flexible space with quality food and entertainment capabilities.
Washington Street Plaza will allow us to remain the primary source of hospitality in Sequim and continue to provide our customers with the best possible experience. We will be a refuge from daily stresses and anxieties by exceeding our hotel and restaurant customers' expectations of food, cleanliness and service, all in a warm, relaxing atmosphere. The unique design of the Washington Street Plaza will allow us to market our services to the Seattle-Bellevue-Tacoma urban market and will result in new visitors to the Olympic Peninsula. This will improve the economic viability of all area retail businesses which is our mission of continuing to be good neighbors to our community."
